You Should Have Read the Book... Or Maybe Not

One book that I have read that has later been adapted to a movie which I feel was a much better presentation of the story was “The Maze Runner”. I love to read and generally I find that books that have gone on to become movies are far superior than their counterparts, but not in this case. “The Maze Runner” is a fairly quick and easy read, but I found myself struggling to get through it just because I could not connect with the storyline in a way that I can with most books, even if I don’t relate to the story they are telling at all. The author could not draw me in and I found the book to be quite slow and boring. Then the movie opened in theaters and I decided to give it a try, and I loved it. I think that what set the movie apart from the book was the excellent casting. The actors they chose to bring these characters to life drew me in and made the story exciting. Generally, books are easier to connect to than movies. When reading a book, readers are able to create their own scene of whatever they think the scene being described looks like, in movies, that is chosen for you. Also, there is the issue of time. Books have pages upon pages to fill with incredible detail and captivating imagery, whereas a movie only has a short amount of time to tell an entire story. A lot of the time important details can get lost. Overall, I normally find the book to be much more engaging and entertaining than its movie counterpart, but not in the case of “The Maze Runner”.
